Highway 31 -
Highway 31 is a minor north-south highway through the Selkirk Mountains. The highway first gained its number in 1973, and it is one of the few, numbered highways in the province that is not fully paved.
From the North:
Trout Lake is located 90 kilometres south of Revelstoke (including a 20-minute ferry crossing Arrow Lake). Take Highway 23 South to the Shelter Bay Landing.
From the ferry landing, turn left ~ 2 kms at Highway 31 junction with Highway 23 – travel 18 kms the Beaton turnoff at Armstrong Lake. Turn right to Trout Lake (14 km of good gravel road).
From the South:
Travel from Nakusp on Highway 23 North to the Highway 31 junction and turn right – travel 18 kms to the Beaton turnoff at Armstrong Lake. Turn right to Trout Lake (14 km of good gravel road).
From the Southeast:
Travel from Kaslo on Highway 31 North – travel ~100 kms to Trout Lake. Highway from Gerrard to Trout Lake is very narrow and winding in spots but well maintained. (Good 20 km gravel road).
